Killed Covers

For authors and publishers, there are a lot of reasons for choosing a book cover - in other words, it doesn't mean the rejected covers are crap!

Two weeks ago, The New York Times hosted an Exhibition named "Killed Covers"(they are all rejected book jacket, however, they are still awesome), here is the link for those people who don't live in NYC.

  ImpactSalon_bcards4xhilwq.jpg

Business card is always an important part of visual communication, it shows not only the personality, charater but also style. Some designers focus on business
card's special edge or surface, some focus on creative ideas. No matter how, the point of business card design is making an eye-catching advertisement of the
card's owner and to be remembered. Below are several special business card design. Just take a look!

Collage Cover For Vogue Magazine

2i2hqh-thumb.jpg

Canada designer shrubrub made this attractive
Vogue cover by superimposing all the covers of 12 issues in 2012. Then you get the image below - dark-haired, white-skinned model, centred.

Web Page Design For Pine B&B

Recently, I was asked to design a website for a B&B in Yilan, Taiwan.
Here are two versions of different concepts.
laydesign1.jpg

Based on the brief, the concept of the first one is a burrow.
Like a shelter for travelers to escape from the rush realities of life.

laydesign2-01.jpg

The second one, I try to convey a vogue style, and buliding an image of fashion trend with cold tone colours.
I prefer the first one more, however, it all depends on the proprietor's decision.

London unlimited

2011-03-05-181721-2ngpok.jpeg

What is the london brand?  This image is designed by Nahim Afzal.
A visual and verbal 'brand toolkit' to help coherent cross-sector promotion. A political identity for collaborative work primarily for international audiences.

Vogue Cover With Thread

 inge-jacobsen-3.jpg

Vogue, again!
But this stitched magazine looks really cool, right? It was made by Inge Jacobsen
Her main concern as an artist is how one responds to the mass of imagery in the world. Altering these is central to a lot of her work.

Penguin Design Award

   penguincomp_logos.jpeg

Penguin (UK publisher) has announced the brief for this annual Design Award. The competition is open to students, and there are two briefs: one for Penguin, to design a cover for Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s One Hundred Years of Solitude; the other for Puffin, to design a cover for Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach.
Students may enter one design in either or both categories.
The closing date for entries is Friday 15 April 2011.

Below are three sketches I drawn for Puffin,  Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach.

I don't quite like the left one, it seems that if there are 100 students submit the work, 99people will draw this similar one.
The right one looks normal as well.

Compared with the other two, it looks more dramatic. However, if I do more about this award, I will update it.
